MOOS

MOOS (Multi-user domains, Object-Oriented) are programs that allow people around the world to converse in real time through a Telnet connection. The text-based MOO environment allows users to speak to each other as if they were in the same room. Typed responses are processed immediately and can include descriptions of facial gestures, facial expressions, and other non-verbal conversational cues that users choose with typed commands. Go to MOOBasics for more information.

Newsgroups

Usenet's newsgroups are at the very heart of the Internet. In these electronic bulletin boards, you can meet people with similar interests, find out about jobs, learn about events and discoveries before they appear in newspapers or journals, and get answers to questions. Unfortunately, you may have to dig through inane, obnoxious or misleading postings, because, after all, anybody can post in Usenet, and practically everybody does. Because their nature changes daily, we at BioTech cannot hope to give you an accurate review of the newsgroups listed below (except for the clari.* groups which are moderated and contain real newspaper reports from services like the Associated Press and Reuters.) If you haven't used a newsgroup before, you might want to read Usenet: the Global Watering Hole and Using WWW to Read Usenet News. Also, if you're a Mac user and have the option of reading these newsgroups with Netscape 1.1, you might be better off using it instead of 2.0; 2.0's interface seems a bit buggy.
