Agricultural Genome
World Wide Web Server - National Agricultural Library - USDA - The Agricultural Genome World Wide Web Server (AGWWW) is a service provided
by the USDA, National Agricultural Library in Beltsville, Maryland, USA.
Funding is provided through the USDA, National Genetic Resources Program. The
information contained on the server consists of genome information for
agriculturally important organisms. At this time, most of the information is
provided through the USDA Plant Genome Program, although there is some animal
genome information. In time, the server will contain information about insects
and microorganisms.
Note that, although we have restricted ourselves to "agriculturally important"
species, defining the set of organisms that are "important" to the agricultural
community is difficult at best. Certainly, the food commodities fall into that
set as well as plant and animal pathogens. However, data may be available for
other species which can help reveal information about the "core" species. One
such example is Arabidopsis which is important as a model organism for
all
plants. So, rule of thumb is that we will maintain information on all species
that are important to the agricultural community as well as related species for
which there are no other data sources that are easily accessible.
