University of Minnesota/Michigan State University Arabidopsis cDNA Sequence
Analysis Project - The Arabidopsis cDNA Sequence Analysis Project is a
joint effort between the University of Minnesota and Michigan State
University. The sequence analysis system currently under development consists
of a series of software tools that automate the process of analyzing cDNAs, or
expressed sequence tags (EST), for similarity to known sequences.
AAtDB: An Arabidopsis
thaliana
Database - This database is a collection of
information on the model plant system Arabidopsis. The
Arabidopsis-BioSci is a database of all the messages transmitted over
the BioSci usenet group and associated mailing list.
The Arabidopsis thaliana (AAtDB), Caenorhabditis elegans (ACEDB), Arabidopsis-BioSci, Compleat Guide, Nottingham Seed List, Electronic Arabidopsis Information Service and Interaction Trap WAIS indices provide fast access of every word in these databases. This gopher server is also connected to several other Internet Gophers around the world and thus is providing access to other WAIS and FTP servers of interest to biologist.
The WAIS indices can be searched with plain words or with specific
technical names and words because the location of every word, any
combination of letters and numbers between a space or other
punctuation, is remembered. The WAIS indices can be altered by using
the modifiers "and" and "not". Searches without "and" and "not" are
conducted as if an "or" was present. Partial word matching is also
provided by simply adding an asterisk ("*") to the end of a word
(eg. photo* ). Finally, literal phase matching is provided when the
phase is surrounded by either single or double quotes. For example,
the search query "light harvesting" (including the quotes) will only
return entries that exactly contain that phrase, as compared to a
search without the quotes where all entries that either contain the
word light or harvesting. These extensions to the WAIS server are
developed by Don Gilbert of Indiana University.
