Finding People Online

Here are a few sites that will help you locate and correspond with educators and scientists who share your interests. Also, you might want to check out our list of bioscience-related newsgroups.

BioMOO
This is a program that allows biological researchers around the world to converse in real time. The MOO environment allows users to speak to each other as if they were in the same room. Typed responses are processed immediately and can include descriptions of facial gestures, facial expressions, and other non-verbal conversational cues that users choose with typed commands.
Community of Science
This site is designed to help you identify and locate researchers with interests and expertise similar to your own. It contains an online inventory of researchers, inventions and facilities at universities in the U.S. and Canada. Also includes databases to help you find grants and funding.
Four 11 Directory Services
Know their first and last name? Got an e-mail address with no name? You just might find the people you're looking for in Four 11's 6.5 million (completely searchable) listings.
Internet Address Finder
IAF has listings for over 5 million individuals and allows you to search for an e-mail address by the person's name and location or for their name and location if you only have their e-mail address.
Switchboard
Or, check out Switchboard's free nationwide address lists (but be forewarned, some of these addresses will be hopelessly out-of-date if the subject of your search moves frequently).
